Henri de Saint-Simon

Henri de Saint-Simon, a progressist, advocated for scientific advancement and centralized industry to propel societal progress. He highlighted the need of engineers and planners in increasing efficiency through large-scale infrastructure projects like as canals, railroads, and planned communities. This method affected both functional and large-scale urban planning models.

Charles Fourier

Charles Fourier, on the other hand, took a culturalist approach, emphasizing the value of interpersonal ties and community-centered life. His notion of the "phalanstère" envisaged self-sufficient communities that balanced labor, recreation, and daily living. These principles influenced human-centered urban designs, such as the Garden City Movement.
